About Sanjay-Dubri National Park

Sanjay-Dubri National Park is wildlife paradise located in Sidhi district of Madhya Pradesh. The National park was established in 1975. The world famous white tigers “MOHAN” was found and rescued from the forest of this landscape by Maharaja of Rewa in 1951. He was later reared in an enclosure in Govindgarh and bred to tigress Radha. She delivered first white tigers in captivity, and most of the white tigers present in the zoo across the world are their progeny only. In remembrance, one of the park Range has been named after this White Tiger, “Mohan”.

Now these beautiful Sal forests are not only home for Tigers and hundreds of other species of wild animals but they also form wildlife corridor, connecting Bandhavgarh and Palamau Tiger Reserve. Occasionally the wild elephants from neighboring Chhatisgarh area venture into the forests of tiger reserve for temporary shelter.

Flora & Fauna

Sanjay-Dubri National Park has open Sal and miscellaneous forest with scattered broken clumps of bamboo. On the other hand Tiger Reserve is full of high density and good site quality Sal and bamboo forest. Bamboo forest give shelter to occasional visiting herd of wild elephants. Sanjay-Dubri Tiger Safari Park is best known for its evergreen Sal forest, is home to about 152 species of birds 32 species of mammals, 11 species of reptiles, 03 species of amphibian and many more, 34 species of fresh water fishes. The major species found are tiger, Sloth bear, Chital, Nilgai, Chinkara, Sambar (limited to hilly terrain and in very small number), leopard, Dhole (wild dog), Jungle Cat, Hyena, Porcupine, Jackal, Fox, Indian Wolf, Indian Python Four-horned Antelope and Barking deer.

Best Time to Visit Sanjay-Dybri National Park

The best time to visit Sanjay-Dubri National Park is during the winter and early summer months, from November to April. During this period, the weather is relatively pleasant with cooler temperatures, making it comfortable for outdoor activities and wildlife sightings. Here's a breakdown of the seasons and their characteristics:

  • Winter (November to February): This is the peak season to visit the park. The weather is cool and pleasant, with temperatures ranging from 10°C to 25°C (50°F to 77°F). The vegetation is relatively dry, which enhances wildlife visibility. It is an ideal time for birdwatching as migratory birds arrive in the park during this season.
  • Spring (March to April): Spring marks the transition from winter to summer. The weather becomes slightly warmer, with temperatures ranging from 15°C to 30°C (59°F to 86°F). It is a good time to visit if you prefer fewer crowds and want to witness the forest coming to life with blooming flowers and lush greenery.
  • Summer (May to June): Summers in Sanjay-Dubri National Park are hot, with temperatures ranging from 25°C to 40°C (77°F to 104°F). The vegetation becomes denser, which can make wildlife sightings a bit more challenging. However, the park's proximity to the Son River offers opportunities for aquatic activities and scenic views.
